Renewal by Mail
Eligibility
Renewal by mail is available using Form DS-82 only if all of the following four conditions are met:
- You can submit your most recent passport (must be undamaged)
- You were at least 16 years old when your most recent passport was issued
- You were issued your most recent passport less than 15 years ago
- You use the same name that is on your most recent passport or your name has changed by marriage or by court order and you can submit appropriate original documentation to reflect the name change
If you answered no to any of the above four statements, you cannot apply by mail. You will need to use Form DS-11 and you must appear before a passport agent to renew your passport. Please appear with a completed application and all of the required documents.
